About QR Code Generator

Last updated: May 2026

OptiPix QR Code Generator lets you create and scan QR codes entirely in your browser. Generate QR codes from URLs, plain text, email addresses, phone numbers, WiFi credentials, or any text content. Customize the output with adjustable size, error correction level, and foreground/background colors. The generator produces crisp, high-resolution QR codes that you can download as PNG images. The built-in scanner uses your device's camera or lets you upload an image containing a QR code to decode its content. Both generation and scanning happen locally with no server interaction. QR codes are widely used for contactless menus, event tickets, business cards, WiFi sharing, payment links, and marketing campaigns. The tool supports all standard QR code error correction levels (L, M, Q, H) so codes remain scannable even if partially damaged or obscured.

How It Works

The generator uses the qrcode library to encode your text into a QR code matrix following the ISO/IEC 18004 standard. The scanner uses the jsQR library to detect and decode QR codes from images using pattern recognition algorithms.

Use Cases

  • •Create QR codes for business cards and marketing materials
  • •Generate WiFi sharing QR codes for guests
  • •Create QR codes for event tickets and check-ins
  • •Generate payment link QR codes
  • •Scan and decode QR codes from images

How OptiPix generates QR codes

The generator encodes your text, URL, Wi-Fi credentials, or vCard directly into the QR matrix in JavaScript - the payload never travels over the network. That matters for Wi-Fi passwords and contact details: with server-side generators, whatever you encode is in someone else's request logs.

You can choose all four error-correction levels defined by the QR standard (L 7%, M 15%, Q 25%, H 30%). Higher levels add redundancy so the code still scans when partially obscured - use H when overlaying a logo on the center, M for clean print placement, and L only when you need maximum data density.

Output is available as PNG for quick use and as true vector SVG for print. The SVG contains the module grid as paths, so it scales to a billboard without resampling artifacts, and the quiet zone (the mandatory white border) is included at the standard 4-module width so scanners lock on reliably.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I encode in a QR code?
You can encode URLs, plain text, email addresses, phone numbers, WiFi credentials, and any other text content. The QR code standard supports up to about 4,000 alphanumeric characters.
Can I customize the QR code appearance?
Yes. You can adjust the size, error correction level, and foreground/background colors. Higher error correction allows more customization while keeping the code scannable.
What is error correction?
Error correction allows QR codes to be read even when partially damaged. Level L recovers 7% damage, M recovers 15%, Q recovers 25%, and H recovers 30%. Higher levels produce larger codes.
Can I scan QR codes from images?
Yes. You can upload an image containing a QR code, or use your device's camera for real-time scanning.
What format is the output?
QR codes are generated as PNG images that you can download and use anywhere.
Do QR codes generated here expire?
No. OptiPix produces static QR codes - your data is encoded directly in the pattern itself, with no redirect through our domain. The code works forever, even if OptiPix disappeared tomorrow. Codes that 'expire' are dynamic codes that route through the generator's server.
What size should a QR code be for print?
The rule of thumb is scanning distance ÷ 10. A code scanned from 25cm (a flyer) should be at least 2.5cm wide; a poster scanned from 3m needs ~30cm. Always download the SVG for print so edges stay crisp at any size.
Can a QR code hold a whole Wi-Fi password?
Yes. The WIFI: format encodes SSID, password, and security type; phones join the network on scan without typing. A QR code stores up to ~4,000 alphanumeric characters, far more than any Wi-Fi credential needs.
How do I create a QR code for free?
Open the OptiPix QR Code Generator, type your URL, Wi-Fi credentials, vCard, or text, and the code renders instantly. Download it as PNG for print or SVG for infinite scaling. There is no account, no expiry, and no scan limit because the code is generated entirely in your browser.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes never expire: the data is encoded directly in the pattern, so they work forever. Only "dynamic" QR codes from subscription services expire, because they route through the provider's redirect server and stop working when you stop paying. OptiPix generates static codes, so they are permanently free.
What is the best size for a printed QR code?
Use a minimum of 2 x 2 cm (0.8 inches) for close-range scanning, and follow the 10:1 distance rule: a code scanned from 1 meter away should be at least 10 cm wide. Download from OptiPix as SVG so you can scale to any print size without losing sharpness.
Can a QR code contain Wi-Fi login details?
Yes. A Wi-Fi QR code encodes the network name, password, and security type; phones that scan it join the network automatically without typing anything. OptiPix has a dedicated Wi-Fi mode that builds this format for you, and since generation is local, your Wi-Fi password is never sent to any server.
Why is my QR code not scanning?
The usual causes are insufficient contrast (always use dark code on light background), printing too small, over-customization that breaks the pattern, or inverted colors. Add a quiet margin around the code and test with several phones. OptiPix exports high-resolution PNG and SVG with proper margins to avoid these failures.
